GenPI Lampung – To begin with, we believe that there should be actions to empower people in this global pandemic event. In order to survive, former approaches are still relevant at some points but there should be innovative strategies. In Lampung, Payungi is leading community to be the part of pentahelix stakeholders in local development.
Speaking of action, payungi (Pasar Yosomulyo Pelangi – Colorful Yosomulyo Market) is a creative market in small city of Metro Lampung which is organized by local community. We work as a part of local stakeholders to be empowering institution by educating and assisting housewives to sell traditional foods which in the following days, this market is developing to be a prime initiator of city innovative economic and tourism center. Then, as the activists of this agenda, we form a formal institution called Payungi University as the medium to share our ideas, experiences and strategies of this communal work to share it to broader audiences which come to visit and study our movement. Nowadays, Payungi University is acting as community partner to Academics – Business – Community – Government – Media (ABCGM – Pentahelix).
The idea of sharing this collaborative movement is to be transformative way of public education that bottom-up empowerment is the best idea not only to survive this extraordinary pandemic situation but also to develop further city and rural development. This day, more than 10 government organizations from 5 different provinces in Sumatera have been our active partner in creative economic empowerment.
We conclude that the best solution of policy change is by making independent bottom-up communal work as the real practice to be policy consideration for local or global stakeholders. Done by people, and for the sake of people.
